I think there's levels to gamification, celebration and rewards system like their confetti's are aspects of gamification. Even making it so that there's a social aspect to it, is a gamification technique too, You unlock features on Robinhood when you have more than $2000 on their, through Robinhood Gold. Their copy literally says "Unlock new opportunities". The popular list makes you feel like you're doing this with other people, which is another feature of what games are, afterall games are not really games unless you play with someone. Outside of my personal opinion of whether or not Design should be responsible, I would agree that their Visual Design is beautiful but it works perfectly in hiding those gamification techniques.
